The name of the club shall be "The Shere Tennis Club".
Club membership is open to any person resident in the parish of Shere, and at the discretion of the committee, the surrounding district.
All members acknowledge that the tennis courts are used at their own risk and the Club cannot accept any liability in this respect. This applies to all family members identified by the lead applicant.
The Club shall have the power by majority vote of senior members at a General Meeting of the Club, to remove any one or more committee member from the committee and any one or more officers from office.
If the power under sub-rule (a) is exercised the vacancy so created may be filled by the election of a new committee member or post holder by majority decision of senior members at the same General Meeting.
The club shall be managed by a committee to be elected each year by members at the Annual General Meeting of the Club. The committee shall consist of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and four other members. The committee shall have the power to nominate a successor for any vacancy that may arise during the year. The quorum for committee meetings shall be four members.
The Secretary shall at any time, on the request in writing of five members of the club, call an Extraordinary General Meeting of the club.
The Secretary shall keep a book recording the minutes of General Meetings of the club and all committee meetings.
The Treasurer shall keep up-to-date accounts and shall have these available at committee meetings when given prior notice that financial matters are to be discussed. At each Annual General Meeting of the club the Treasurer shall present a full and complete balance sheet that has been duly audited.
The committee shall be responsible for the proper conduct of the club and take appropriate action in the event of misbehaviour or damage to club property by members or visitors.
The rules of the club shall only be altered by a majority decision of senior members at a General Meeting of the club.
Club subscriptions for the various class of membership shall be disclosed on the club website.
1. A visitor may not play more than ten times in any season. Visitors must be accompanied by a club member and shall pay a charge (as detailed on the website).
The committee does not have the power to authorise expenditure of monies of any item that is not directly related to the playing of tennis on the tennis courts at Shere, the club facilities, or recognised club activities.
The committee shall reserve the right to suspend membership or refuse an application.
General Court Rules
Tennis shoes only to be worn on the courts.
Members are responsible for visitors and shall pay the visitor charge to the Treasurer.
Courts to be locked by last people playing and the padlock code jumbled.
Balls which are knocked out of court during play should be recovered immediately.
Cars should not be brought up to the tennis courts. Use either the car park at the bottom of the recreation ground or the area below the bowling green.
Games should be limited to one set when any club members or their visitors are waiting to play.
Club Session Rules
Club sessions are to be decided annually by the committee after the AGM.
Senior members only shall play at senior club sessions, and junior members only shall play at junior club sessions.
Eight games to be played at club sessions.
Singles should stop as soon as other club members arrive at the courts.
